Add GoogleDrive to your ownCloud deployment

Adding GoogleDrive to your ownCloud deployment is a tricky job, so it is complex to complete and undocumented. Simply following ownCloud guide won't make you get the job done, (this is my personal experience) as there are steps missing.

LibreOffice can't open files through gvfs

This is a known issue for long: LibreOffice can't open files from a gvfs with Nautilus, File or similar Ubuntu file browser, by doubleclick, regardless the file is on a smbfs or on a davfs.

This behavior was noted on Ubuntu desktop systems starting with 13.04.

The error is the following: General Input/Output error while accessing /run/user/1000/gvfs/[smb|dav]...

Install Ubuntu 14.04.3 server in software RAID1 configuration

I found many guides on this topic, yet they  were somehow obsolete as disk partitioning procedure seemed to have changed  since 14.04.3 version of the server.

So here is my guide to install Ubuntu  14.04.3 server in a RAID1 configuration (two hdd in mirroring). The guide is made in a virtual machine with 2X8 GB disks, sda and sdb. In your case you will have  at least two real hdd with your specific capacity. Hdd technology is not  relevant, could be two classical hdd or two SSD drives.

Windows 10 migration

Migration from Windows 7 to Windows 10 was a nice surprise.

Ubuntu phone experience

Much has been already said about the Ubuntu phones. Here's my personal experience with.

As many other Ubuntu fans, I was dreaming about a smartphone integrating Ubuntu desktop experience. Well, the first Ubuntu phone wasn’t exactly the powerhouse I was hoping for and doesn't integrate (yet) as seamlessly with Ubuntu desktop. Never the less, Canonical is still committed to ship a device which will be a phone and which will give you a desktop experience.
So I was happy to be able to order it quietly, after the first rush with flash sale sessions ended.

Raspberry Pi experience

Recently I started the Raspberry Pi experience, and I find it extremely exciting. Although by the time I decided to buy one, Pi 3 was already available on the market, I opted for the Pi 2 as I judged this version more mature for a 'production' environment. I bought it from Amazon and I choose the Sony made one for reliability reasons. I can tell you that I am completely satisfied by the choice. I never had any freezing, overheating or whatever issue with, though it runs 24/24 7/7 and is 'medium' over-clocked.

Refurbish your old laptop/PC

Old laptops can be given a second life. Often, due to lack of performances, one may want to get rid of an old laptop to buy a new fancy one with more memory, faster, larger hard drive or new Bluray drive.

Now, if you just want to get rid of the old one, not happy with it any more, no matter what, just do it.

But if you love your computer/laptop and you want to give your laptop a second life, now it is time to refurbish. Three major components may be improved and will increase dramatically performances:
